Brewing my 1st batch, a 60 minute IPA.  My brew shop recommended pouring the wort through a straining cloth into the fermenter. The other information I've read said this is optional.  I'm using a bag for the hops.  Should I still pour the wort thought a straining cloth?  Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I don't strain.  I bag my hops too.  I have very little hops make it into the fermentor.

totally optional. It makes it a little easier down the road to rack off cleanly with less trub on the bottom and if you want to reuse your yeast it makes the cake more purely yeast so you have to pitch less of it in the next beer.
