Batch sparging typically results in a slightly lower brewhouse efficiency - so you might achieve 68% instead of 72% efficiency (for example). If you include this in your recipe, BeerSmith will correctly use that figure to estimate your original gravity letting you accurately formulate the grain bill.
Also there are tools on the main recipe editor to view efficiency and determine actual efficiency if you have your recipe and measured original and final gravity. This lets you improve your efficiency estimates after a few batches.
