Source of water used for brewing??

M

Matt

Pretty new to homebrewing, I've only made 5 batches or so.  Glad to find this great site!

What I'm wondering about is the type of water I'm using.
Is tap water fine if the levels of chemicals are OK (read as "it doesn't have a funny taste")
or should I use bottled water, carbon filtered water, distilled water, etc?

Now I'm thinking it's pretty much what tastes are existing in the water
but was just curious what more experienced people might suggest.

Thanks.
Matt

What I've found is tap water works fine. The best thing you can do is call your water dept. and get the chemical composition of your water and plug it into the water program within BeerSmith. If you run it thru a carbon filter, you'll strip out some of the nutrients that the yeast would need to ferment your beer. Adding yeast nutrient can fix that. Just watch what you do and it'll be fine.  Water is the LAST thing to work on. I suggest not worrying about it until you have to! The beer is good, that's the primary thing. Happy Brewing!!
