Hi All,  I've just tried to harvest yeast for the first time.  I followed these instructions almost exactly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPYUFJ4bPD4

Problem I have is I do not see any distinctive line between the traub and the yeast, looks like all traub to me.  It has been sitting for about 2 hours now.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Mike

You dont' have much trub.  Pour off the dark part and split the rest into three pint containers.  It will be wonderful!

It depends on how quickly it settles out.  If it's slow to separate, I'll put it in the fridge.  Of course, once it is completely settled out and you have yeast in your final sized containers, storage should be in the refridgerator.

I left it on the bench for about 2 hours then in the fridge for 2 hours.  I still didn't see any separation so I split the 4 pint jars down to 2.  I guess I will know if there is enough yeast in it when I do a starter in a few weeks.

Thanks for your responses

I did a tutorial on my yeast harvesting and rinsing procedures about a year or so ago.  It's a powerpoint presentation with photos. Here is the Beersmith link to it.

If you use this method you don't have to wash yeast. and you will never go back to your old method.
