I am fairly new to the brewing experience with only about 15 kits and 1 all grain brewed so far.  My question is this.

1. A friend wants me to try a  "Not Your Fathers Root Beer Beer" clone not something I really care for but willing to do it for him.  I found a recipe on Beer Smith Cloud and it calls for "Crude Root Beer Ingredient kit"  What is that?

2. I assume it is more than just a 4oz bottle of root beer extract.  I see some ingredient kits some with extract and some with out.  Also they seem to have some items I assume I should not be using in a beer recipe ie: Kit includes 3 lbs of honey, 2 lbs of sugar, champagne yeast etc.  If a buy one of these kits which ingredients am I supposed to be using?

3. Anyone have any guidance or experience on this topic?
