Running on windows 10, after a 5 year break, I've reinstalled BS2 and am putting some recipes back in by hand.
Problem is, every time I open/close beersmith, it makes a copy of the file recipe.bsmx amended with an increasing number, and creates a new file called recipe.bsmx.

I'm not a fan of and unknown amount of duplicate files taking up space for no reason.

;) I think you'll find they are back ups of your work in BS so you can revert back to a previous state

While that sounds great, why do I need a backup everytime I open the program? Can I turn this "feature" off?

The five backup files are baked into BeerSmith's operation.

By themselves, the various files aren't very informative. You have line by line access to every database simply by opening BeerSmith.
