I made a big calculation error in last week's batch and realized that I had enough gravity to split the batch into three (had planned to do 2). To make up for the hops, I was thinking about doing a boil of about a gallon and use it for makeup when I rack the three carboys. I set up the batch with the actual boil volume I used, batch size of 15 gallons, actual hop schedule, and got an IBU. I subract that from my target IBU and come up with what I think I need to make up. Then I run the numbers with a boil of gravity 1.00 and final gravity being my final target, and fool with the hops to get the IBU to equal my "makeup".
