not enough water?

my carboy dosnt have a 5 gal mark and im not sure if i added enough water, it has been fermenting for 16hrs already is it too late to add more water?

I wouldn't add water now. Just next time be sure to make around five and a half gallons of wort.

If you are going to add water, boil it first to sterilize it and then cool it before adding to reduce the risk of infection. However, unless you are way off I would probably leave it as is - it will turn out fine!
