Reinstalling Beersmith on new disk

Can anyone help please?

I had Beersmith2 installed on my iMac and a current backup of the program on an external hard drive.
Last week my iMac hard drive died and has now been replaced with a new disk. I loaded the Beersmith back up from my external drive and when I opened up Beersmith I was directed to activate the software as if it was a new installation.
I did this then was directed to update my copy of Beersmith which I duly did only to discover upon re-launching the program that none of my recipes were there.
I tried the "Recover from Backup" instructions (file:///Applications/BeerSmith2.app/Contents/Resources/help/index.html?my_recipes_and_folders.htm) but the only option was to back up the recipes from the earlier new installation - the installation that erased my recipes.
So, if you've stuck with that tortuous description of events, can anyone advise me as to how I can get my recipes from the original, external hard drive backed up version?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You can transfer your installation over to a new computer.

If you have BeerSmith2, make a backup copy of your Documents/BeerSmith2 directory.

Next check the Help->Activate command to get your registration key, then download
and install the new copy on your new computer.  After you've run it and used your key to activate
it you can (if desired) move your Documents/BeerSmith2 directory over to the new computer
which will carry over your recipes and other data.

When you are done with the old computer and have your data saved, you can then uninstall it from the old one.
