Is there any chance that someone has invented a (free)program that will translate the .bsmx files from hieroglyphics to American English, so that we can see what the recipe actually says? Just askin? Some of don't read all of the different programming languages!

The format is beerxml and the data contains everything associated with the recipe.  What would you want to see from the data file?

Keep in mind a recipe contains the ingredients and such along with the the profiles for equipment, mash, fermentation, etc.

Well, I've got a whole bunch of these files, and I was wanting to see if they were a recipe that I've already tried or not. I just copied the files from a laptop that I no longer have/use (gave it to my wife), so I'm planning on transferring the good files to my other laptop so that they don't get lost. I can make out a little bit of them, but not all. Otherwise, I'll have to transfer all of them (another thread - Here ) so that I can pick and choose as I want. One reason I want to see them in plain English is that I only brew Porters, Stouts, and IPAs, so I could get rid of all the ones I'll never brew. Just a thought!

Do you have beersmith installed?  If so, you can open them and they open in a new tab.  You can copy and paste to your recipes if your want to keep them or close the tab and open the next one.

If beersmith is not installed, install the 21 day free trial and load them all and delete what you don't want.

You can also rename the file to .xml instead  of .bsmx then open with Internet Explorer.  It is a bit of a hassle but you can decipher the beer name and style pretty easily.  I've bolded my beer name and style form the IE text.

@ jomebrew - I'll just try to copy and paste into my BeerSmith re- install. I made a separate folder called recipes - hope that's what you meant.  If it don't work, I'll be back with more questions.

UPDATE:I tried, but it failed. I could see and read the old recipes, but when I trird to move them into the new install, they wouldn't take. As well, they wouldn't go into the new folder that I named 'recipes'. I'll see if I can find a video on importing those files. THX

Sorry, I confused my two threads  :-[ ! Please see my other thread here on Transferring files.
On this thread, I was just wondering about reading the raw files, didn't mean to carry over from the other thread.
TIA
