Just curious, is anyone else doing this?

I realized that I was brewing way more than I could drink by brewing 6 gallon batches (Yeah, I know...I need more friends)
So I started brewing 3 gallon batches of lighter beers such as IPA's and Red's.

Then I got the idea, that my barley wines and imperials held up much better to time, so I tried a 6 gallon batch and put it on the yeast cake of a 3 gallon batch.

Worked so well that it blew the top off the carboy and dropped my gravity from 1.085 to 1.035 in just a few days.

At secondary reading I am down to 1.015 on an imperial stout.

Just thought I would throw this idea out there in case anyone hadn't tried it. And yes I realize that now I am actually brewing more beer than before... I am not the brightest penny in the coin dish.

I have found that to be the perfect method for making big gravity beers. I do my normal 5 gallon batch however.
