Hi,

I?m from austria and I got the following water value from my hometown:

calcium: 70mg/l
magnesium: 9.1mg/l
sodium: 0.75mg/l
chloride: 1.0ml/l
sulfate: 34 mg/l
carbonate hardness: 9,7 ?dH
PH value: 7,8

Now I want to know, what value I can write in to the bicarbonate box.
Can you help me with this topic?

I have another question about ppm. Can I convert the same values?
For example ist magnesium 9.1mg/l the same as magneisum 9.10 ppm?

Thank you
Dominik

OK, I will start with the easy one.  ppm = mg/l.  Easy peasy.

Your carbonate hardness is 9,7 dH (degree of hardness).  1 dH = 17.8 ppm hardness as CaCO3. So that means your hardness is 9.7 * 17.8 = 173 ppm as CaCO3.

CaCO3 has a molecular weight of 100, HCO3 has a molecular weight of 61.  So to convert your hardness from ppm of CaCO3 to ppm of HCO3, you convert the ppm of CaCO3 to moles and then covert back to ppm of HCO3 which gives you the following:  ppm CaCO3 / 100 * 61 = 173 / 100 * 61 = 105.5 ppm HCO3

Hi Oginme,

many thanks for your response !!

I've worked to the value of 210ppm so far.
I felt that this value was wrong. Now i know it 100%.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Greetings from austria
Dominik
