Red Ale - SUGGESTIONS

M

I am going to brew my first Red Ale tomorrow when I get home form work. I feel I have a good recipe to work from but I am curious to see what key ingredients others have used to make a GOOD red ale.

Hit me back!!!

How Red? Most of my light-as in not dark beers are orangeish red.  Specifically my IPA and APA are that way.

Since Irish Red is usually malty and only medium attenuated, a small amount of roasted barley helps dry out the finish and provide some of the red tones.  Melanoidan malt also is quite red.

Thanks for the advise...for my 5 gal batch I used 6 gal of pale 2 row and steeped in 1 lb of crystal 60L and .25 lb of roasted barley...looks really nice post 24 hrs. Bubbleing well.
