I have been using BeerSmith for a few months now and it's been awesome.

Today, I opened it and in the main screen, can see my recipe.

In the past, I've been able to double click on a recipe and edit as needed.

Today, when I open a recipe, my ingredients list is blank, with nothing to click on or edit. ???

Any idea what's up? I need to make some edit's to a current recipe, but can't.

Thanks.

Sean

Hi,

In most cases this is caused by a corrupt "newopts14.opts" file.

By default BeerSmith is in the "C:\Program Files\BeerSmith" directory.

However under Vista you may also have a "Compatibility files" directory that shows up on the toolbar when you go to the BeerSmith directory.  This is where your data and the opts file likely lives.  The full path to the compatibility diectory is:  C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BeerSmith

where {USERNAME} is your login name for Vista/Win 7.

Note that on many systems this is a hidden/system directory which will not show up unless you go into the options for Windows file explorer and set it to show hidden/system files.

If you delete the newopts14.opts directory there you should be in business.

Let me know if you have continued problems!  So far we've had no one lose any data and I've been able to get everyone back up and running quickly.

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks for the response Brad.

I found the file under the path you gave for Windows 7. I renamed it and relaunched.

I am good to go! Thanks brutha!

I have this same problem but in windows XP, is there a different fix?

I don't think so - your recipes should be in the C:\Program Files\BeerSmith directory in the Recipes.bsm file.

My recopies are still in the main recipe view, but when I open one, the ingredients list is blank.  If I add something it doest show up on the the ingredients list either, but when I go back to the main recopies view it will have been added.

Try deleting the newopts file (per above) - it should fix this.
