Hello Brad,

I need a bit of help. For some reason the ingredients have become not visible in the Recipe screen. They are visible below in the preview screen and when the recipe is displayed using the html report preview. All calculations are correct and the values displayed. Only the ingredients have gone.  ???

This holds true for any recipe from any folder.  I'm not sure what to do next. I hope you can help.

Thanks,

Preston

Hi,

In most cases this is caused by a corrupt "newopts14.opts" file.

By default BeerSmith is in the "C:\Program Files\BeerSmith" directory.

However under Vista you may also have a "Compatibility files" directory that shows up on the toolbar when you go to the BeerSmith directory.  This is where your data and the opts file likely lives.  The full path to the compatibility diectory is:  C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BeerSmith

where {USERNAME} is your login name for Vista/Win 7.

Note that on many systems this is a hidden/system directory which will not show up unless you go into the options for Windows file explorer and set it to show hidden/system files.

If you delete the newopts14.opts directory there you should be in business.

Let me know if you have continued problems!  So far we've had no one lose any data and I've been able to get everyone back up and running quickly.

Cheers,
Brad

Hello Again Brad,

I forgot one piece of data that may be helpful. When creating a New Recipe, the same thing occurs. The increments are not visible in the Recipe Screen but they are there for calculations.

Try deleting it under XP - it will not hurt you and if the file is corrupt it will cause this exact problem.

Hello Brad,

Thank you for your timely response! I deleted both .opt files. Everything worked fine! Your record is safe, No data lost! No files either. Both were recreated when I closed the program. Keep push on BeerSmith 2!  I've tried many ..... see which one I've stuck with!  ;D

Anyway thanks for the help ... On A Sunday .... :D
