Hello:
I have done 3 batches of all grain so far, and new to beersmith (started using it on my first all grain). What I have found is in all three cases, my actual OG is higher than the estimated OG (example, actual 1.070 vs est 1.065, 2nd IPA actual 1.080 vs est 1.070, then Saison 1.070 vs 1.065). I am measuring using a floating hydrometer. Sparge w/ single infusion, light body, no mashout. 48qt Coleman cooler. I was able to hit / hold 150 - 151 pretty consistently.
So questions are:
Am I doing something wrong?
Am I sparging incorrectly (I do follow the instructions), seem to be working ok.
or am I doing something right? do I just need to adjust my brewhouse efficiency from 75% to 80% on the software?
People have always told me that I will not get high efficiency as a home brew, especially as a beginner. So getting higher right from the start seem too good to be true. ???
Thanks for the help, here is a drink to your health.
