I can not find the answer to this question:  Is there a way to adjust the color of the finished beer when there is no dark grains in the recipe?  I need to account for caramelization and other factors.

Thanks. ???

If you want to darken, then it takes very little of a dark roast to slightly darken the color.

Debittered chocolate/carafa from Weyermann Malts has much of the husk removed so it adds less bitterness too.  I just tested a light DME-only recipe that was SRM 2.7, and one ounce of carafa #1 added 3.0 SRM to get to 5.7 SRM.

There is also a syrup called Sinamar that is used for color adjustment.

Hi,
If its carmelization or aging, I would probably just adjust the color of the base malt up a bit.  Often extracts, in particular, will darken as they age and darken again due to carmelization when boiled.
