Hi I cannot view or edit any of my ingredients on any of my recipes. i can view them in the preview section of the My Recipes area, but once opened i cannot view anything other than some of the calculated numbers. I've paid for the software, i've used it, and now it's dead in the water. I'm afraid if i uninstall and reinstall i will lose all of my recipes that i've worked so hard on.

aside from printing and re-entering everything after a fresh install, why is the program no longer working??

Please contact me asap as i need to use the program right away.

I'm 100% computer literate, so of course i "double clicked". I've used the program many times and now it has stopped working the way it's supposed to.

I'm looking for a solution. When the program worked, it worked great. Editing recipes within the program is 100% disabled.

Hi,

In most cases this is caused by a corrupt "newopts14.opts" file.

By default BeerSmith is in the "C:\Program Files\BeerSmith" directory.

However under Vista you may also have a "Compatibility files" directory that shows up on the toolbar when you go to the BeerSmith directory.  This is where your data and the opts file likely lives.  The full path to the compatibility diectory is:  C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BeerSmith

where {USERNAME} is your login name for Vista/Win 7.

Note that on many systems this is a hidden/system directory which will not show up unless you go into the options for Windows file explorer and set it to show hidden/system files.

If you delete the newopts14.opts directory there you should be in business.

Let me know if you have continued problems!  So far we've had no one lose any data and I've been able to get everyone back up and running quickly.

SUCCESS!  Yes, i'm definitely running Vista and you solved the problem. I had to delete it twice, but i now can view and edit everything. Thank you for the help.  :D ;D :)  Yeah, 3 smileyfaces should work here. Now i don't have to seek out another program. Excellent!

EXACT same thing just happened to me! Thanks for the easy instructions!
