I'm a little confused about the calculation for the dead space in the mash tun, in beersmith v1.4 additional water was added in with the sparge water, in beersmith v2 it appears to me that the additional water is added at mash in. Wouldn't this affect the water to grain ratio?

Hi,
The dead space water is only added to the mash in water if you have the "adjust mash tun for deadspace" box checked in your equipment profile.

Some people wanted additional water added so they could maintain the same water/grain ratio above the filter screen, while others (notably those with separate lauter tuns) did not - so I made it optional.  If you check it, the program will add that additional volume to your first mash step.
