Good day.  i am new to all-grain and am working through the process.  As an example I called up a recipe in Beersmith called Bassendean Brown Ale.  It calls for 6 lbs of grains and a bit over a lb of DME.  My question is when mashing are you only including the actual grains leaving the DME to be added to the kettle after sparging?  Thank you.

Hi,
Technically if you have both extract and grains you should set your recipe type to "partial mash" - this will allow you to mash the grains and add the extract to the boil.

And yes - you certainly don't want the DME in the mash tun - just add it to the boil.
