Balance in a beer

Brewing my second beer using Beersmith.  I am just curious, I have been comparing my Est original gravity bar against my bitterness bar in the design tab.  would you say that is how it works determing the balance in hoppiness in a beer?

As a ball park, it seems to be OK.  It follows an established ratio for that style.  Brad wrote a blog post abou tit http://www.beersmith.com/blog/2009/09/26/balancing-your-beer-with-the-bitterness-ratio/.

Every system and process is different and the product is different.  You need to figure out where the beer you make fits on the scale.  My beers tend to come out more bitter than recipes suggest so I tune mine to the lower side of the scale.

I read the link and am going to apply that ratio to my experimental batch. Thank you
