If i am using distilled water for mashing, that has a pH of 7.0, how much 10% Phosphoric Acid do i add to 5 gallons to drop the pH to about 5.1 - 5.9. The mash will only have mashing grain.

In Gordon Strong pod cast he said to use 1/4 tsp. of 10% Phosphoric Acid for 5 gallons of reverse osmosis water. So what is the difference between distilled and reverse osmosis water?

Beer made from distilled water will not be very good. You need some minerals in the water. Filtered tap water is much more likely to make a decent beer.

Distilled and reverse osmosis are basically two methods to make the same thing.

You cannot predict the mash ph from the water ph.  You need to know the grains used too. Dark grains lower the mash ph for the same water.

Get the ez water spreadsheet, and read the brew science section over at homebrewtalk.com.
