Volumes

Looking forward to this also. I currently have to make about 50 adjustments to a spreadsheet everytime I brew.

first runnings - the wort that you drain out of the MLT before adding sparge water.
Second runnings - the wort you drain out of the MLT AFTER adding sparge water.
Post-boil - the hot wort still in the boil kettle.

ok, now that I'm on the same page...
Strike water: 4gal even
First running: 4gal in, 3.25gal out
Second: (calls for a 2 step sparge) 1gal in, 0.98gal out
Third running: 5gal in/4.02gal out
total into kettle: 8.25 at 145* pre boil gravity-1.051, ph mash out 5.8, (I think I should have let it mash for another 15mins, it called for 45. I checked my gravity, but it started at 150*, so by the time is was cool enough to test, I had already set the heat to the kettle to boil, next week I'll run it at an hour, see if I can get that gravity up)
Post boil gravity 1.063, again a bit low, I think originating from incomplete mash.
My hops, I did a volume on those and it turned out 20oz by volume. (did it like mom use to do the old Crisco thing... cup of water in the measuring cup, added the hops, subtracted the difference)
And this time there was 34oz left in the mash tun and 13oz left in the kettle.
