I brew all grain. I ran into a situation where I needed to add 1/2 pound of DME to raise gravity points. I entered it in BeerSmith as a late addition (5 minutes left in boil). When I entered this into the recipe it raised my estimated pre-boil gravity. A late boil addition shouldn't affect pre-boil gravity.
It totally threw off the mash efficiency. I actually got 70% efficiency, and because of the DME addition raising the pre-boil gravity it shows my mash efficiency about 60%.
Thanks
