Help Files display as coding/nonsense characters
« on: January 25, 2014, 11:26:45 PM »
I am having trouble with the in-program help. Whenever I click the help icon, I get a screen of characters that display like this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<!-- saved from url=(0029)http://www.helpandmanual.com/ -->
<head>
   <title>Welcome to BeerSmith! &gt; Finding Your Way Around BeerSmith &gt; My Recipes and Folders</title>
   <meta name="generator" content="Help & Manual">
   <meta name="keywords" content="">
   <meta name="description" content="My Recipes and Folders">
   <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

   <!-- This line forces IE8 into IE7 mode, safer until IE8 is better known -->
   <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

Etc, etc.

Any help on how to resolve this would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Mookiebrew,

Can you confirm that this code is displayed in a kind of notepad program instead of your browser ?
It looks like an missed association between the .htm help files with your default internet browser.
Feel free to gave us more info on your Operating System, default browser etc...

Hey Jean-Luc,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, whenever I click on the help icon, it does open Notepad, leading me to believe it could indeed be a problem of missed/faulty association with the browser.
I'm running Windows 8.1 with Chrome set as the default browser. Any idea who I can remedy this?
