When using the brew starter tab (1 bbl scottish ale) it advises to use 26 packages of yeast as a starter to achieve the required number of yeast cells (1,500 B). This would obviously cost prohibitive not to mention possibly unsafe from a fermenter pressure limitation standpoint. Please advise how to correct this calculation.

Calculations are heavily dependent on user inputs. In this case, the yeast packages are dated Feb. 27, 2011. You need to fill in all of the fields accurately if you want reasonable results.

Thanks. I will give that a try! I’m guessing the correct output should be about 6 packages.
