Ever see a Metric recipe, but you want to use it in English, or a English recipe but you use Metric units?

Well, BeerSmith can help.

Lets pretend I use English units by default but want to enter a metric recipe from a book...  (the process is the same for going the other way, but the units are reversed)

1. Set my units to Metric to enter the recipe -- use the "Options" command on the "Tools" menu and press the "Set Units to Metric" button on the Units tab.

2. Enter the recipe from the book in metric units.

3. Go back to the Options command on the Tools menu and set your units back to English by pressing the "Set Units to English" button on the Units tab.

View the recipe - it will now appear in Metric.  If you want to adjust the volume or equipment settings - use the "Scale Recipe" command on the "Actions" menu to make it an even batch size (say 5 gallons).

Cheers!

I should mention that there is now an easier way to do this...

BeerSmith 1.2 supports arbitrary unit entry in any field.  So to type in a metric recipe while you are still in English mode (for instance), just enter the units as you are entering the number into each field...

For example: To enter 100g of hops, just put "100 g" into the hops amount field.  To enter 5 kg of malt, just enter "5kg" into the grainamount field.  BeerSmith will do the unit conversion for you no matter what your display units happen to be!

Just one of the great new features in version 1.2!

Cheers!
