Please post your progress on translation of BeerSmith 2 into French here.

  • When you start work on a new file, drop a note here so others will know
  • When you complete work on a file, please post it as an attachment so others can check/use it
  • If you don't know where to start, see the "Sticky Threads" at the top of the BeerSmith 2 Translation Discussion Board

Thanks,
Brad

All,
Here are several French files I've moved over from our Beta version of BeerSmith.  These were contributed by several outstanding members of the BeerSmith 2 beta team.  They still need review/checking.

Cheers,
Brad

Hi, we are working on the French Translation of the program with the help of some brassageamateur.com members, but it seems that there's a bug in BResource.exe

When entering a quite long string then the program repeats the string when saving to xml...

Odd - can you send me a sample?  I know some of the fields have length restrictions on them so that might be part of the problem.

Hi Brad,

I checked and till 32 chars in the short name field its ok. then if more than 32... the string is repeated.
may be a size limit in the shortname field would help avoiding this pb ?

In the Tools > Options > Units tab, can't find how to translate "Defaults" header.
Idem for the "Recipe" title in the Recipe view and the "Help" menu down below the left toolbar.

Hi Brad,

We are proud to announce that we have a beta version of the Lang.xml file fully translated into French.

We're just missing a few things not yet translatable on the 2.0.45 version (small/large ribbon, recipe, help...)
How can we merge the job done with new terms ? Can we do it manually with the correct IDs ? Do we need a new res.h file ?

Next steps : we are testing this beta version and will make the corrections, then let a very few users to test it again to check any remaining corrections, after that we'll be able to send it back for publication.

Would you mention anywhere the few homebrewers who did the job and forum name ?

May the force be with you

Thanks,
I need to do a bit of work to create a "Merge" command which will allow the merging of the old and new Lang.xml files from the tool.  Its not hard to do - I just have not yet done it since I was tied up with the release.

Congratulations on the French version file!  This is still a huge accomplishment.  Hopefully we can clean up the remaining data files shortly to create an all-French version for download.

Hello Brad,

Is there a way to force a default UTF-8 encoding for plain text reports in the preview window (for French version) ?

Html reports are ok, I've added the meta tag <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
in the french version of the reports but for text files we have to change the encoding manually to preview correctly the text report's special chars (éèàù°...).

(one nice feature would be to allow direct copy of the content in the preview pane without having to save the report and reopen it...)

Hi Brad,

We're facing a pb while exporting a beerxml file.
The main "<HOPS>" tag in the xml file has been translated.
It's the onlyone. All other tags are ok.
I checked and it seems that the menu name or short name for hops is used to name this gag :-(
I guess it would be better to fix this tag name...

Hi Brad,

Again, thanks for having designed Beersmith 2 to be multilingual. I'm sure it will help many homebrewers not so confident with the english terms and enlarge the audience for your software.

I'm currently working on the "Misc" bsmx file and noticed that all units are not translated. "tbsp", "items", "cup", etc... could be also translated (in the strings part of lang.xml ?)

Of course, it's just a "nice to have" improvement.

Have a nice day

Jean Luc,
Those strings are not in the file - they are hard coded in the program.  However it may be possible to move them to Lang.xml in the future.

I am working on the Hops XML issue as well, drop me an email sometime as I would like to incorporate changes as needed to get the French beta version together.

Thanks - I fixed this one in build 50 and higher (to be available this week).

Hi Brad,

I guess that some terms are translated in Beersmith2 then used for BeerXML export which in some case cause some troubles.

I.E. the use type of hops (boil, aroma, dh, etc...) or the type of recipe (extract, partial, all grain) are now translated in the BeerXML file and could generate more difficulties for other applications while retrieving the datas (or even while importing back previous exports in Beersmith2).

Wouldn't it be good to allow display translation for keys/tags but store all values in english to avoid later issues ?
