Leave out water salts

Is there an easy way to leave out specific water salts when matching a target profile in Beersmith 4?

You can exclude chalk and you can exclude lime... but you can't exclude magnesium chloride (which is new to BS 4).

I don't have magnesium chloride. I've never used it in all the years I've been brewing. Why am I being forced to use it now when I was able to easily match profiles before without it?
 
The addition of MgCl and CaOH allows water profiles to be matched by BS4 much more precisely than before. However, most people don't have MgCl. If you use the automated matching, then eliminate the MgCl and try to tweak the other ingredients to make up for it you can still get pretty good matches, although it is a bit more work.

Thats what I ended up having to do... removed it and manually tweaked the salts to hit my target.

An "upgrade" that makes me do more manual work doesn't really feel like an upgrade if you ask me... And it just feels like a dumb thing to be forced to use. Im a homebrewer. They don't even sell magnesium chloride in most homebrew shops.

Beersmith people- Give me the option to exclude it, please.
 
Remove it and don't bother trying to tweak your other elements. Only trace amounts of Mg are ever needed in those styles that call for it and Martin Brungard states that wort provides all the magnesium your yeast will ever need.
 
I would like to see an option in both the standalone water profile tool and the in recipe water profile tool to not use magnesium chloride. Give me an option to go back to the way Beersmith 3 worked.

Related to this is which hydrate of MgCl2 is BS4 using in its calculations?
 
It is annhydrous I believe. I will make a note to add an option to exclude MgCl (likely a checkbox) in the future.
 
I'd love to find science to the change to MgCl but haven't found it yet. Did pick some up for my brews this wknd so interested to see the change. Im using RO water so need the Mg in my setup.

That would be awesome. It might be good to have the option to exclude any water salt that the user specifies in case we run out on a brewday.
 
I would like a way to exclude Baking soda and epsom salts as well.... Keeps me using Bru'n Water because it's too much of a hassle to remove them and add in other salts.

The only think I can say is if you don't at least include the basic salts, you leave uncovered ions in the water which will result in a poor water match. Epsom salt and baking soda are very easy to acquire from virtually any drug store or grocery.
