I have only used Oak spirals that were used by a local craft distiller to make whiskey. However, I was wondering about Hickory as well as Pecan. We smoke meats with them but I’ve not used anything but Oak for beer.

I have used oak and ash on the same brew. There wasn't much of a difference in taste. I suppose pecan would be about the same.

Never tried anything with pecan, but interested to hear how it turns out. Do you plan to toast the wood before using? Keep us posted.
