This Saturday, my wife and I will be going to a brew shop and learn about all grain brewing, this will be our first exposure to home brewing and we will pick up a kit to start out with.  We have made wine but this will be our first ever beer!

Welcome to the forum.  I suggest you also pick up John Palmers book "How To Brew".  When choosing a first beer, a good choice is an ale, such as a porter.  A lager is not a good first choice, because of how important fermentation temperature control is in making a good lager.

Good Luck!!
