What Equipment does a Mash profile assume?

I create a Mash Profile from scratch, setting the Grain Weight Basis, and add an infusion step. I set the step temperature, and the water/grain ratio. BS4 generates an infusion temperature for me.
Does BS4 assume a certain Equipment profile in calculating the infusion temperature?
Or, is the temperature based only on the heat loss due to the specified grain weight, grain temperature, and tun temperature (without regard to equipment losses)?

Iinformation in the selected equipment profile as well as grain weight, grain temperature and mash tun temperature are used to calculate the infusion temperature.

Thanks, Bob, but I was thinking of what happens when no recipe is "open".

Tried this: I only open the mash profile tab, and select "create a profile" There seems to be no specified Equipment profile being in play at this time. Yet, with only a new mash profile open, I'm able to set up the profile.

Here's a new mash profile (no recipe window is open):

And here's adding a step (with a 1.5qt/lb mash thickness):

What I'm getting at is the infusion temperature was based on something/somethings. Would those things include an unseen equipment profile, and if so, is it some sort of internal default (because there are no equipment profiles "open" or "selected").

I know, it's splitting hairs, but I just like to know programmatic details. Maybe Brad is lurking and could chime in.

If no recipe is open (i.e. creating a mash profile from the Profiles->Mash view), then the program uses the volumes and grain weight you give it as a basis to determine the water/grain ratio. Its basically the water/grain ratio that then drives the water used for each mash step.

Perfectly clear. And the infusion temperature you calculate? Why, in this case, is it 171.8F?

I could assume that you are ignoring any heat loss due to the vessel, and are using the specific heat of an "ideal grain" (hoo boy, do I remember "ideal black bodies", "ideal gases", etc !), but you know what 'assume' makes out of certain letters, like 'u' and 'me'.

In all cases, never the 'u', Brad!
