Why is Beer Brewing So Technical?

Perhaps this is why I have not enjoyed being in a club setting. I would rather not explore the technical parts of brewing. I find it cold and soul-less. Give me a tool to calculate water, yeast cell counts and I'll use them gladly. I just have no interest in knowing what is behind the curtain. My interest is nearly 100% in the artistic. Perhaps that is why I have been a musician, a radio DJ, and an actor in my lifetime. I would rather create than calculate.
