Hi folks.
Brew day tomorrow (American IPA). I really want to get this one right because the last two I made a bit of a mess of! I have an issue I would like some advice on.
I intend to batch sparge with three steps (drain mash tun then sparge with two equal amounts of runnings). I was advised to do this my the excellent tom_hampton, a guru on this forum. I have selected the "Single Infusion, Medium Body, No mash out" mash profile.
For a batch size of 24 litres, BeerSmith tells me I need to mash-in with 18.81 litres. Then in order to get the 3 steps I have set the following parameters in the mash profile:
CHECKED - "Batch sparge using batches that fill" - I set this at 70% so that it created two equal amounts - 11.36l each.
CHECKED - "Use Equal Batch sizes"
CHECKED - Drain Mash tun before sparging
I'll Vorlauf at the start of each sparge then, once the wort runs clear (no grain) I'll empty the tun.
Does this look about right?
Many thanks
Simon
