Gap between the grain and inside wall of my igloo mash tun.

This was my 7th brew using this mash tun, but my first wheat beer. Towards the end of sparging when the water on top of the grain bed began to clear up I noticed an 1/8" gap between the grain and the mash tun's inside wall. I could not tell how far the gap went down. The gravity was only 1 point below the estimated, so it appears no big loss there. Did I do something to produce the gap? I used 6 lbs. of wheat and 5 lbs. of 2-row.  Thanks.

This could be channeling. It probably meant that the center of the grist was pretty compacted. Depending on how your manifold is designed, this may not be any big issue. From the gravity it appears not, since 1.001 is less than the margin of error from all the possible variables.

Some rice hulls in that grist would likely prevent it from happening.
