So I just got a new computer, and I had them install my old hard drive as an extra drive in the new computer.  I've managed to reinstall Beersmith 2 with my serial number and everything, but I can't seem to get it to recognize all my old recipes.  Here's the directory listing of my old Beersmith 2 directory:

Yet when I point Beersmith to it, it doesn't find my old recipes.  Are they lost forever?  How can I get Beersmith to recognize my recipes?  Do I have to enter them all again by hand?

BeerSmith looks for C:\...\My Documents\BeerSmith2.

With BeerSmith closed, just copy the F:\ drive folder and replace the C:\ drive folder with it.

This is driving me nuts.  :(  I've tried copying the entire contents of my old BeerSmith2 folder to multiple locations, including the application installation directory, and my "My Documents" folder on the C: drive (as you suggested).  BeerSmith refuses to show anything but the 19 default Sample recipes.  I'm planning on brewing this weekend and I really need my recipes - anything else I can try?

I'm still fighting with this, but I was at least finally able to get BeerSmith to show some of my recipes by copying everything into the "Backup" folder, then going File -> Open and opening the files one by one.  I can then see my recipes, but I'm still not able to add them to my main library.  When I export them and put them in a folder, and try the "Import Wizard," it complains that there isn't a "Recipe.bsm" file (since the export task saved it as Recipe.bsmx).  If I manually rename the file to chop off the trailing 'x', I get an error message saying "The file type is not recognized or supported by this version of BeerSmith." WTF!?!  I just EXPORTED it from this version of BeerSmith, what do you mean you can't read you own file???  Argh!

OK, one last update.  I figured out that with an old "Recipes" file open, I can just drag and drop the recipes into my main recipe panel.  With the equipment, however, I had to actually replace the Equipment.bsmx file with the backed up one.  After much hair pulling and swearing, it looks like I'm finally back in business.  There's got to be a better way to do this in the future.

A recovery method that should paste them to the new directory.

-With BeerSmith closed, go to the F drive Documents\BeerSmith2 folder.
-Double click on Recipe.bsmx. BeerSmith should auto open. You may have to tell Windows to open with BeerSmith.
-BeerSmith will open with a view pane of your recipes as recorded in this file. You should see all of your recipes if the F directory is a copy of the Documents\BeerSmith2 directory.
-You can now just cut and paste these recipes into the My Recipes view pane.

You may repeat this with your equipment, fermentation, carbonation and ingredient profiles or items. Or, you can simply use the Save disc next to a profile name in a recipe to capture that profile back into the database.

Profiles and ingredients can be copied back into the database from the recipes.

Yes, you found the current alternative method when just pasting the whole folder fails.
