dead volume and grain bill

How does the software correct the grain bill for the system dead volume and hence lost or diluted wort?
 
Dead space is unrecovered wort.

Unrecovered wort is one of many losses that BeerSmith accounts for. In the mash, it's seen as a change in the preboil gravity.

A wide recovery gap is simply more volume in the mash, hence it's not dead space.

You'll see this accounted for as an increased volume of strike water. You can deal with this easily by calculating your mash as if there is no extra space, then simply add the volume of that space to the strike water volume. BeerSmith will recalculate the water ratio and the strike temperature to hit your target temperature.
 
In no sparge that dead volume is wasted wort.  Isn't it diluting the SG?

It completely depends on how you want to build your recipe. No Sparge is single wort brewing. That process already demands 25% more grain which is all about overcoming the "diluting" inherent in the process. So, the technique decides the solution.

With no sparge you scale recipes to the full volume of the mash vessel. If you don't, you'll get weak wort.
