I just started using Beer Smith after switching over from Beer tools (beer smith is way better) The yeast calculation for an Imperial IPA recommends a 3.8 l starter. I have a stir plate.
I have always used a 1 L starter. to make a large one, Do i just upscale the extract for the starter to 3 L and then do I stir it longer than the normal 24 hr?

I love BeerSmith, but I use this yeast calculator: http://www.yeastcalculator.com/

The multi-step starter assumes you let your first starter ferment completely, then chill and decant the liquid off the settled yeast and trub. Add more wort and let that ferment out, chill, decant... repeat as needed to get the needed cell count.
