allot of folks have no markings on kettles and measure water additions. Pain in the azz.

    a simple but great addition would be a volume calculator to tell you how many inches/cm of water equals what volume for your particular vessel

I use a "Kettle Stick". just a piece of plastic marked off in litres, I lower it until it is almost touching the wort and read off where the top of kettle comes.
I did the marks by just adding 1 litre at a time in the kettle, you can then tell your evaporation at any given point in the boil. Don't forget to sanitise it!
