Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I have been brewing my own beer for just over a year and the results have been good and popular.
The one major thing I would like to learn is how to adjust the ABV of my brews.
In general they are too strong!
I would like to reduce the alcohol content while still retaining the taste.
Is there a simple way of doing this which does not require a masters degree in chemistry ??
My recipes are all grain and mainly from Beer Smith with some slight changes.
Usually batches of 18 litres or so.
Thanks

Hello,  and welcome!  Yes,  it is possible to lower ABV while maintaining at least very close flavor. The easiest thing to try would be to lower the amount of basemalt and try and hit the same FG by raising the mash temp. Play with the numbers in Beersmith until you get what you are looking for.  Cheers!

Thanks for that JRowland, I will give it a go with my next brew.
Below is the the grain for an 18 litre IPA.
How much would you suggest reducing the Pale Malt by??

2.40 kg Pale Malt (2 Row) Bel (5.9 EBC) Grain 1 68.4 %
0.50 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (236.4 EBC) Grain 2 14.2 %
0.21 kg Munich Malt (17.7 EBC) Grain 3 6.0 %
0.20 kg Victory Malt (49.3 EBC) Grain 4 5.7 %

Thanks
