Growing your own Hops

Nice article, I know an area near me that has hop plants growing wild in the hedgerow.

Do you know if any future articles will cover "How to identify varieties"?

Hi,
Thank you for the kind comments.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a method for visually identifying hop varieties.  Most of the research in this area involves using a laboratory and gas chromatograph or other complex equipment.

One could probably take a sample and send it off to a lab for analysis, but I'm not aware of a simpler method.

Cheers!
Brad

I will ask the local farmer if he knows the variety?
I think they were grown commercially about 40 years ago. They may be an old variety that is prone to disease.

Best to collect a sample in the summer and do some trials to see what it tastes like.

Thanks Brad.
