I just purchased a Barley Crusher recently.  Now I want to save some money by buying a base malt in bulk.  I looking at Briess Brewers 2-Row Malt or a Rahr 2-Row.  Would any one be a good choice?  Any suggestions?

How would Briess Ashburne Mild Malt be as a base malt?  Could it be used in place of a 2-Row?

Cheers!!

I am a fan of Rahr.  I buy sacks and am very happy.

My "go to" base malt has been Maris Otter.  Can't go wrong!!

I second the Rahr 2-row base malt.  It is one of two that I buy in bulk (the other is Crisp Maris Otter).

I've tried the Ashburne Mild and it is pretty good, but it does have a higher color (I think around 5 Lov.) which gives a higher starting point when formulating.

I use mostly Rahr 2 row.  It is light in color (1.8L) and is $37 at my LHBS.

Love Rahr 2-row. I definitely like it better than Briess. 2-row from Canadian Malting is another good one.
