When I find a great looking recipe that is for a 5 gallon batch, Beersmith will convert to a 10 gallon batch simply by an X 2 ratio on all ingredients. This seems to work well for lighter beers.
However for dark beers my experience with this simple conversion is not as good. Base malts and crystal malts are fine, but for high SRM malts the X 2 ratio is too much. Beers turn out too dark and toasted.
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? It appears the conversion ratios should be adjusted downward for higher SRM grains.

When you scale a recipe, there are options to match original recipe color, IBU, and gravity.  This will tell the program to readjust the ratios of the grains to keep the color consistent with the original recipe and perform an non-linear scaling of fermentables.
