I'm planning to set up a small home 4 vessel brewery, and initally decided on 50 litre vessels.

However, some vendors sell all 4 vessels at the same capacity, i.e. all 50 litres, whereas other vendors sell the vessels with different capacities.

Any advice on the optimum ratios for HLT, mash tun; kettle, and fermentation vessel will be most appreciated.

(I have searched this forum but am unable to find this information).

Many thanks

The basic rule of thumb is that the boil kettle will yield 75% to 80% of it's capacity and that fermenters need about 20% excess capacity. The result is that 50L vessels will comfortably work for 40L batches.

Many thanks, Brewfun - I appreciate your advice.
