Propane Burners and tanks

I use the Bayou Classic and love it so far.  It's not near as wimpy looking as it is in pictures.  (Was suprised when it got it, it's huge, fits a keggle great.)  I monitor my gas usage pretty carefully (turning it down from themo-nuclear while boiling, etc.) and think I probably get around 2-3 batches typically per propane tank.  If you get one of these, buy two propane tanks.  /Sucks/ running out at the middle of a boil.

Pretty nice looking burners

I've gotta say nope to the 23 jet burners...  WAY too powerful, and I mean WAY...

Check some forums - you'll find that most guys are trying to get down to 10 jet burners - plugging outlets and everything.  I've been where you are - I want the heat; that's just really a LOT of heat in a very small diameter...

If you couple them with a  regulated valve you can get a lot of control  They sell those in  plumbing supply stores for around $15.

I recently re-built my kitchen and put in a wolf dual-burner-6-burner so I'm indoors now.  I can put 6 gallons in a 32 quart pot and  get it roiling  all the way down to barley simmering pretty efficiently.  Those miulti head  rocket ship burners can get your plain water up to temperature really fast.  After you start adding things  the temperature delta between contact at the bottom of the pot and the rest of the boil  can be dramatic.

Of course they make for great Chinese  food too.
