I finally got to brew the other day and I used the stove top mini mash method recommended to me by Sleepysam and Maltlicker.

I made up an IPA recipe and thought I would try it out on a small batch first.

1.00 lb Pale malt 2row
.50 lb Vienna malt
.33 lb Aromatic malt
.33 lb Cara-Pils
2.0 lb Pilsner Malt Extract

.25 teaspoon of Gypsum 60 min in the Boil
.16 oz each of Magnum and Zeus 60 min
.16 oz each of Magnum and Zeus 30 min
.32oz of Zeus 20 min
.48 oz of Centennial 20 min
.75 oz Centennial 0 min

I used 8qt of water for my grains and I used a double broiler to adjust my temps.
Strike water was at  104.0 then placed in a warmed oven for 20 min.
Back in the double broiler and increased temp to 140 for 20 min in oven
The next temp was at 158.0 for 40 min
Then mash out at 170.0 for 20 min
Added the Pilsner malt
Then hops

I chose Wyeast 1098
Placed in fermenter at 68.0
O.G 1.072

Eugene Oregon Water
Calcium 3.5    Magnesium 0.0  Sulfate 4.6  Sodium 5.4    Chloride 2.3    Alkalinity(CaCo3) 23.    PH. 7.8

I'm just learning about water adjusting, so I'm not sure if the .25 teaspoon of Gypsum was the proper amount.

This is my first time doing the stove top mini mash, and I have to say that I'm hooked.
Thanks again Sleepysam and Maltlicker for the great info.

Makes me wonder why I left the comfy AC in my kitchen for the 95F ambient in my stinkin' garage Sunday.

Looks like a nice IPA, enjoy.

Hmmm. You mean I can brew in my home? In the AC? Man, What Was I Thinking!  ???

Cheers
