Streamlined inventory management opportunity

When going through and taking stock of inventory of grains or hops, the user is forced to do unnecessary conversions to enter in the correct amount.  Take for example a typical scenario:

Use case:
User is entering in grains to inventory.  He puts a bunch of 2-row on the scale and it reads 2 lbs. 5 oz.  Let's say the options are set to show grains in lbs. (the scenario is true regardless of settings).  He double clicks two row and goes to enter in the amount he has on hand and now is forced to enter in a decimal to convey the amount.  In order to figure this out, he needs to open up the weight conversion tool, take the "remainder" of 5 oz and figure out what this is in decimal form, and then come up with .31.  He then needs to enter in 2.31 into the input box.

Suggested fix:
When using imperial units and entering in inventory, the user should be presented with lbs and oz input boxes.  This mirrors the real world figures the user faces when measuring out grains, hops, etc. on a scale.

Thanks for the great software - keep up the good work!!

enter "3lb 4oz"

BeerSmith has done this for a long time

Hmm, I think it still may make more sense, from an ease of use perspective, to have seperate boxes.  Typing "10 tab 5" is more user friendly than "10 l b space 5 o z", and unless a user reads these boards, they likely don't know about that feature to begin with.

It's even more versatile,  enter a number such as 2.8kg,  BS performs most unit conversions in the entry fields.

from the help menu
Automatic Unit Conversion

BeerSmith supports automatic unit conversion in almost any field.  This means, for example, that you can enter a unit descriptor after any number and BeerSmith will automatically convert the unit for you when you hit the tab key.  For example entering "56 C" into a temperature field that defaults to degrees F will automatically convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

You can even enter compound entries in certain situations such as entering "5 lb 3 oz" into a weight field which will correctly be converted to the current weight units.

Finally you can do simple math in any field - for example entering "3/5" into a field will correctly convert to "0.60" when you hit tab.

This applies to all fields that use standard weight, volume, temperature, gravity, color or pressure units.  The only exception is certain advanced options which use fixed units.
