Whitefish
Apprentice
Back to brewing after a lengthy hiatus.
Ingredients and techniques and are worlds ahead of where when last I brewed at home. (Interestingly, the equipment I'm using today for extract brewing is almost identical to what I had way back then).
Another difference is the fact that it is legal to brew your own beer today.
The biggest difference is the amount and level of information available to the home brewer, and the ease of acquiring it (my previous efforts were well before Al Gore invented the Internet).
My earlier foray was pre Brad Smith, pre John Palmer, pre Ray Danials, pre Carlie Papazian, pre Byron Burch. Fred Eckhardt was the source authority for brewing information.
The beer I brewed was truly awful.
I'm happy to report that my first batch of the 'modern era' has passed a major test. My wife (who was my girlfriend back when) tasted it and opined "it's not bad, kinda tastes like beer". Score!
