Entering New Extracts

Hello!

I was wondering how one goes about entering in new data for extracts. I will be brewing this weekend with some Muntons Extra Light liquid extract. The only thing I see on the can is EBC color (7), and solids (80-82%). When I enter this in to BeerSmith, EBC to SRM conversion is straightforward. I'm a bit confused on the SG yield. Is the SG yield the same as the solid percentage?

Thanks for a great product!

Mike,
No, the SG yield is the specific gravity of the malt in water.  It is indicative of sugar content.

Lacking any more detailed data, I would use an SG of 1.036 - since most male extracts are within a point or two of this.

Cheers!

In this case I would use 81% of the 46 points for pure sugar which gives you 1.037.

Excellent!

Thanks for the replies. I'll let you know how it goes!
