Is it possible to get an accurate ABV reading from a bottle of beer or a kegged beer after carbonation from a refractometer?
I confess to being the worst at collecting gravity readings  after wort has chilled and after fermentation. I think this is to due to my being fearful I might contaminate something after the boil. I don't need an explanation on the value of sanitizing. I'm well aware of ways to ruin a batch of beer. I'd just like to know what the final ABV is so I don't end up getting myself or anyone in trouble.

Nuts. Can this be done by shaking up a sample or leaving it sit out all night?

You could try this: http://itswhatsontap.wordpress.com/2012/04/07/ive-always-lo-12-2/

It worked for me and it's faster than leaving it out all night. ;)
